Tempered glass is heat-treated to increase its strength. If it does break, it fragments into small, relatively blunt pieces rather than sharp shards, which is why it is the standard choice for shower enclosures. All Zenova shower doors use tempered glass.

Laminated glass bonds two or more panes to an interlayer under heat and pressure. Tempered is typically a single pane; laminated is usually two tempered panes with the interlayer between them. The practical difference shows up after breakage: tempered glass separates into loose granules, while laminated fragments stay bonded to the interlayer, so the panel holds together. The interlayer also dampens sound in roughly the 1000–2000 Hz range.

Consider laminated where the panel needs to stay in place after an impact, or where sound matters — hospitality projects and shared walls, for example. For most residential shower doors, tempered is sufficient and costs less. Tell us the application and we will suggest a specification rather than push you to the more expensive option.

Low-iron glass contains roughly a tenth of the iron oxide found in standard clear float glass. Two practical effects: light transmittance is about 91.5% against roughly 86% for standard clear, and the green cast visible at the glass edge is much reduced. Lower nickel-sulfide content also means a lower spontaneous-breakage rate after tempering. It does cost more, so it is usually chosen where the edge colour and clarity are on show. If you are not sure it is worth it for your market, ask and we will quote both.

Our aluminum frames are extruded from 6463 alloy — within the 6000 series it is the one specified for surface quality, because it anodizes and plates to an even, bright finish and holds that finish in a wet room. Our stainless frames are built from SUS 304 with an 8K mirror-polished surface. Aluminum is the larger share of what we ship; stainless is the step up in price.

Aluminum suits most residential work: it is lighter, costs less, and with a sound coating it holds up well in a bathroom. SUS 304 is harder than aluminum alloy and more resistant to corrosion, and it allows a slimmer profile and a cleaner joint, so it is usually chosen for premium lines and heavier panels. Neither is the wrong answer — in practice the decision comes down to your price point and the look you are after.
